Call for Nominations

The Wartburg Symposium is pleased to announce the 2023 Nestle Award for Excellence in Flavor Research to recognize excellence of scientists in the early stage of their careers in aroma and taste research.

The purpose of the award is to honor and stimulate researchers for excellent contributions to aroma and taste research with a demonstrated potential for translation into innovative products & services in the food industry.


At the time of the 2023 Wartburg Symposium, candidates must be in their early independent stage of scientific careers, which means they should have obtained their PhD degree in the field of aroma and taste research not longer than eight years ago.

Selection Criteria

  • Academic excellence of candidate (provide recent academic transcripts, list of publications)
  • Scientific excellence: Level of scientific challenge tackled by candidate
  • Demonstrated potential for translation into innovative food products & services: Candidate must provide convincing evidence that the scientific discovery can be used to overcome current challenges in the agri-food-nutrition sector, and/or can be translated into a product, process or service and must show innovativeness /novelty of solution and relevance to market needs
  • Entrepreneurship: Evidence and quality of entrepreneurial steps planned or already taken to turn the idea into reality.


Application Process

Candidates must apply using the attached template and send their application dossier to the conference organization at latest by February 28th, 2023.


Awardees will be selected by the scientific committee of the conference and a Nestlé representative amongst the attendees delivering an oral or flash poster presentation during the 2023 Wartburg Symposium. There will be in total 3 awards (Silver, Gold, Platinum). Awards will be granted during the conference by the key organizer of the symposium and a Nestlé Senior Management representative.


Additional Conditions

Wartburg Symposium and Nestlé shall have full discretion to select award recipients or to withhold any award in case no application fulfills the requirements. With submission of the application, the applicant accepts these conditions.
